For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by tales of fairies and dragons. When I saw a poster for Castlefest, I knew I had to go. It’s like a renaissance faire. I was 14 when I first attended, and it felt like coming home. As I walked through the gates, the smells of grilled meats and bread mixed with the sweet scent of mead, while folk rock filled the air. Everywhere there were people in elaborate costumes.
The marketplace was the most impressive part. Booths overflowed with handmade crafts; wooden cutlery, candles, clothing… I marvelled at leather-bound journals and a jeweller’s stall displaying shiny treasures. As I tried on a necklace featuring a real silver-backed leaf, I felt a connection to a place I had always admired.
Visiting Castlefest has been a cherished tradition for over half my life. Each year brings new wonders; glassblowers, blacksmiths, and elaborate performances. My collection of treasures grew, each piece a memory of past visits. The magic never fades, and I always leave with a sense of longing, excited to return to this place where history and fantasy merge so beautifully.
That is the feeling that drives me. Every year, Castlefest is the thing I look forward to most. And while having it be a once a year thing makes it more special, I would love to shop and support the artists and merchants year-round!

Consequently, authentic artisans struggle to compete for visibility and recognition, facing significant challenges against the influx of non-handmade products.
Hidden fees imposed by these platforms further compound the issues faced by artisans, eating into their earnings and hindering their ability to sustain their craft and business growth.
Artisans also encounter hurdles such as fake copyright infringement notices and inadequate support, exacerbating their challenges in the current marketplace landscape.
